Eastern Hungary July Prayer Requests

July 12, 2008

The Eastern Hungary Team asks that you please pray for our Roma (Gypsy) summer intern, Levi, as he adjusts to life in Hungary and works to reach out to Roma in the surrounding communities over the next six weeks.  Levi comes to us sponsored by the IMB Romany team's F.A.R.M. program, which makes it possible for young Roma believers to serve as summer missionaries.

Also please pray for the upcoming multi-faceted outreach that will be taking place in the town of Püspökladány.  Our team will be doing a major Scripture distribution in the open market on July 18.  We will be assisting the small local Baptist church in a two-day "family fun" outreach to the community on the 19th and 20th, and then in a sports camp from the 23rd through the 27th.

Please pray that the Gospel seed will be spread and take root in many hearts.

For more information, visit the Eastern Hungary Team website or blog.

Western Hungary May Prayer Requests

April 30, 2007

The Western Hungary Team's May prayer requests are now available on their website.   Team members working in Győr (JUR), Keszthely (KEST-hay), Nagykanizsa (NODGE-kah-knee-zsa), Siófok (SHE-oh-foke), and Sopron (SHOW-prone) share prayer requests for the people and the outreach currently going on in their cities.  Also on the same page, learn how you can pray for Hungarian Baptists as they minister among the people of western Hungary.

Thank you for boldly interceding at the Father’s throne of mercy and grace for the Hungarians of western Hungary and the IMB Western Hungary team!

May Month of Prayer for Eastern Hungary

April 30, 2007

The Eastern Hungary Team invites you to join them in the 5th annual "31 Days of Prayer for Eastern Hungary."  This year's special emphasis is on cities and towns that are very much on their hearts, where the team has been active in their work over the past several years.

One town is featured each day on the prayer calendar; links are also given to external sites which give further information and pictures. Outreach projects will take place in several of these locations starting in the month of June. The team believes that focused prayer will be key in reaching the people of these towns for Christ.

For more information about the work in eastern Hungary and the 4.7 million people living there,  visit the Hope for Eastern Hungary website.

Please Pray for Peaceful Celebration on March 15

March 8, 2007

Please pray that commemorations and demonstrations planned for March 15 in Hungary will not deteriorate into violence, as some groups are threatening. Caches of weapons have been found, and arrests are currently being made.

March 15, a national holiday in Hungary commemorating the Revolution of 1848-49, is always a time that stirs great emotion. Following the political crisis and anti-government protests of October 2006, ongoing dissatisfaction and lack of national unity have contributed to an environment of unrest.

Pray with us that violence and acts of extremism will not mar the holiday; also pray that as Hungarians remember their heroes, martyrs and fight for freedom, that they will come to realize that true freedom comes through knowing Christ.

Thank you for your prayers for the people and nation of Hungary.

October 23 -- Revolution Day Heightens Political Tension

October 23, 2006

October 23 is an important day of remembrance in Hungary, commemorating the 1956 revolution against hard-line Communist rule.  The revolution was short-lived, being ruthlessly put down in only 13 days, but the heroic and self-sacrificial fight for freedom is remembered each year with both pride and sorrow.  This year the  political tension and ongoing anti-government demonstrations have created a situation in which emotions are at an extremely high level, and even more clashes are expected to take place between demonstrators and the police.

Please pray that violence and bloodshed will be avoided, and that the people of Hungary will turn to the Lord rather than trying to find answers to life's problems through politics or demonstrations.

October 6 -- Day of Prayer and Fasting for Hungary

October 5, 2006

Due to a major political demonstration planned for Friday, Oct. 6 at Kossuth Tér in Budapest, many Hungarian believers will be observing that day as a time of prayer and fasting. They are asking God that the demonstrations remain non-violent, that the situation in Hungary will improve, and that God's will may be done. They invite other believers to spread the word and to join them in prayer and fasting.

Thank you for helping to stand in the gap for the nation and people of Hungary during this difficult time.

Political Unrest Sweeps Across Hungary

September 19, 2006

Please pray urgently for Hungary, as the country is going through what is being called a "moral crisis." Statements by the Prime Minister were leaked to the press Sunday, which have resulted in anti-government protests in towns across the country. Last night what began as a mainly peaceful demonstration in Budapest turned violent; about 150 people were injured, including 102 police officers.

In a statement today, the Prime Minister said that the overnight riots were "'the longest and darkest night' for the country since the end of communism in 1989." As of this morning the crowds have dispersed, but protesters have said that they will not be satisfied until the Prime Minister resigns. Please pray for safety and stability in the country, but most of all for the Lord to be glorified as people re-examine the governing of their nation and the basis of their way of life. As they look for something or someone to put their hope and trust in, may they turn to the One who is always true and faithful.
